Looking Back Year 2007 - Part 1

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Misc YUI Facts:

YUI just won Best Voice of Life (Women) for CHE.R.RY and Best Album of Life (CAN'T BUY MY LOVE) in FM Festival's Radio Award in Japan, Life Music 2007.

Check out the nominees and winners. Winners are selected based on the votes from listeners.

YUI's CBML actually beat RADWIMPS 4 (me lurve both albums)...and she beats Angela Aki, ayaka, Cocco...even though they sing better, YUI is more popular lol. Maybe because the fact that she's one of the sensei in SCHOOL OF LOCK, increased her chances to win, since SOL has something to do with this award, heh.

I like this award hella lot more than those on TVs (Grand Prix, Best Artists, MTV...). Maybe it's because most of my fave artists were nominated xD

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I started to blog more about YUI in the beginning of 2007. I'm not sure exactly why but, seeing all these YUI facts were under appreciated by fans, and people making weird/creepy assumptions kinda 'forced' me to rant it here instead. Gotta thank dear YUI for this, and of course you guys for motivating me to improve myself even more.

Back then I only write for exams, assignments, homework...end. Oh and forums. That's all. I rarely write in my entire life before 20, that's why I have to keep churning out stuff to polish up my mediocre writing skills. Now I try to write 3 posts per week, translate more stuff, and write journal everyday (influenced by YUI).

Here are brief summary on certain big events happened in year 2007. This is to recall back all the great things YUI achieved and for those who just got to know YUI recently.

January 2007
  • YUI, lip synched for the first (and only) time on TV.
  • Release of Rolling star on January 17. Total sales: 169,277 - Highest Ranking: 4 - Yearly Ranking: 35 (as 12/24/2007)
For me, I participated in a YUI Radio contest. Horrible, terrible, vegetable letter though.

February 2007
I attempted to translate lyrics for the first time. It is one of the best way to improve comprehension skill. I rather let the pros do it though, since I have trouble reconstruct sentences in a more artistic way.

March 2007
I received my JLPT Level 3 results, and attempted lyrics translation in Chinese.

April 2007
  • Released CAN'T BUY MY LOVE on April 4. YUI's first ever number 1 in Oricon chart. Total sales: 647,410 - Yearly Ranking: 10 (as 24/12/2007)
  • 2nd Tour Spring & Jump started at Fukuoka on April 13.
I met up with someone I got to know through online for the first time. From that onwards, I've been looking forward to meet all the friends I've made online, someday.

And, YUI no Ontama is hilarious.

May 2007
  • First half of YUI 2nd tour 2007 Spring & Jump ended at Shibuya's C.C. Lemon Hall (May 1). Second half started on May 25 at NHK Osaka Hall.
  • Received April's CDTV Award.
Teo's 6000 words research paper came to an end. Finally I feel like being a real university student.

June 2007
  • YUI completed her 2nd Tour 2007 on June 1. Total 12 shows.
  • Release of first double A-side single, My Generation/Understand on June 13. First number 1 single. Total sales: 135,093 - Highest Ranking: 1 - Yearly Ranking: 52
  • Takeuchi Yuuko become first guest artist of YUI Locks.
My first big translation project: ROCKIN' ON JAPAN interview. Don't worry, it is still going on.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My school starts today. I need to do some serious planning so that I won't screw up lol. Particularly on productivity to get things done. I will try to finish part 2 after I come back from school.

Happy New Year's Eve!!

PS: This post was written because the author was waken up by some horny cats at 1 am.

YUI's latest baby is a 1977 Martin D-28

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Misc YUI Facts:

As I was saying that we don't miss out that much if we don't listen to YUI Locks' jyugyou no hitokoto, I was DAMN WRONG.

In November 8 Jyugyou, YUI said that recently she watched 300 (DVD) and Resident Evil (on TV, 2nd time).

300?!!!!! O.M.G...

She described 300 as: "Simply a movie featuring lots and lots of macho guys with ripped abs, battling!"
This video fits her description perfectly LOL. Of course she said that the movie conveys different messages as well, deep stuff.

I wonder what made her watch this movie (Sexy men??). And why she doesn't watch Devil's Prada, Mean Girls, err...those girly movies?? Lol.

YUI said that even though she's not very used to watching horror movies (because it's scary), but she thinks that she can endure it. In ROCKIN' ON JAPAN interview, YUI said that she's not those screaming type although she's scared.

I don't watch horror movies. It makes me feel insecure. Luckily I am Legend is not so scary, zombies are creepy though >.< Dear YUI, watch I am Legend! Much better than Resident Evil (according to my brother).

Maybe I should watch 300 too. then drool all over in front of TV, just like YUI did.

It's Raining MEN, ohhhhh~!!!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Misc facts is getting longer *swt*

I can tell you that YUI really likes her Martin guitar. This will be number 7 or 8 (I think) in her acoustic guitar collection.

Music Station Special Super Live (21/12/2007)

She loves her Martin so much and dedicated one diary post and mentioned about it in November 15 YUI Locks' Jyugyou no Hitokoto (A word or two after class) segment.

Being a crazy YUI Guitar freak, of course I have to dedicate one post for her new Martin D-28 (1977). Source: Go!Go!Guitar February 2008.

First, YUI mentioned that she found some nice looking guitar in second hand music instrument shop.

Source: YUI Diary (23/10/2007)

Then, in November 15 Jyugyou, she 'showed off' her Martin and kept saying how much she likes it, finally discovered such a nice guitar.

As you guys know, back then YUI used some unknown Martin in It's happy line and feel my soul PV (btw her name should be in caps). YUI said that the sound lasts longer, the quality of sound is different too. She has always liked the sound of it (Martin's unique sound I suppose).

Which means: Maybe back then she couldn't afford Martin, since they are famous being expensive, finally she can have one (even though it's second hand). Her true love is Martin guitars?? (For acoustics)

And she said that the light finishing (painting) has a different kind of feel, it's wonderful.

All these showed that YUI treats this guitar slightly differently lol. Maybe because this one is not sponsored by Fender haha.

This Martin guitar first appeared in YUI's Budoukan live, then in latest Music Station SP.

Budoukan Live (19/11/2007)

I guess that we might see it quite often in the future.

The former owner should be very glad that YUI picked up his/ her guitar. I shall go and play with my Yamaha then.

PS: I have mailed all the prizes for half-banana dot com Christmas Giveaway contest (Helixius, address??).

New YUI Diary/ Single, YUI LOCKS 20/12, Merry Christmas!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Misc YUI Facts:

YUI's current kuchiguse (favorite phrase): Holly (ホーリー)

Edit: Use 'holly' better. The other word is more sacred =x

It was all started in November 29 YUI Locks, YUI first used this word on air. Then some fan influenced by YUI and started to use this word, without knowing the real meaning and his friend was kinda annoyed by it.
Apparently dear YUI doesn't know why she used it too, she just feels like saying it.
Hence, everyone is using it now, including YUI's staff. Feel free to use it till 26 of December.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

YUI Diary 24/12

Even though YUI diary is less personal these days (compare with when she first debuted), YUI will still update on special occasion, such as Christmas eve. In latest YUI Diary, apparently on Christmas day she will be recording new single that would be the first release for 2008. Cant wait!!

AND, she did try to do wu~wang on Music Station Super Live xD Too bad her 'wang' was cut off T.T She seems disappointed too(judging from the way she wrote lol).

YUI LOCKS 20/12

Source: December 20 YUI LOCKS!

WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT??

It was some Japanese monster/ ghost drawn by dear YUI. Actually YUI started this 'Guess what the heck YUI sensei is drawing' quiz thing few weeks back, under a segment called Jyugyou ato no hitokoto (A word or two after class), which we can listen to it by accessing YUI LOCKS! website through mobile phone.

This segment is around for quite a long time (I think), just like in previous Jyugyou ato no hitokoto, YUI said that whether she'll receive any covers from London (anyone from London?), after she played Shinigami's LIFE in that episode of YUI Locks.

It is just a short clip so I don't think we'll miss out that much. Plus, now that they have this illustration quiz going on, YUI will air previous week's hitokoto, and reveal the answer in YUI Locks. Those who got it right will receive 'YUI original stickers' from YUI sensei. You guys can try and guess it too.

Apparently YUI was surprised that so many fans managed to get it right this time xD

This week's YUI Locks featured YUI on (YUI's Music) segment. I LOVE this segment. You can know what kind of songs YUI listens to (I actually dedicated one post on music YUI listens to...), the theme for this week is Christmas love songs.

1. Aqualung - Easier To Lie (I deleted this album, whoops)
2. Sheryl Crow - Blue Christmas
3. Popsicle - A Song Ago

After hearing how she described these songs, I had the feeling that YUI is getting better at conveying her thoughts, gives clear examples, sometimes even throws a little of humor lol.

For example, Popsicle's A Song Ago. She was looking for some songs that have those lovey dovey mood, and was wondering how we think of this song. Especially for couples, traveling by car, YUI starts to have these images when listening to this song, maybe they will stop the car aside, and hugs each other, gently. And YUI started to laugh (lol) half-way describing this, and tried to return back to her 'normal self' before us fans start to 'interpret' something out of her comments xD

I'm sure you guys still remember back then when YUI has to explain something, it is usually very short, and formal-ish. It's a good sign that she's more willing to share her real thoughts, maybe she'll reveal more secrets in the future? To 'satisfy' our curiosity.

Btw, YUI explained what the lyrics of those songs as well. Good, listen to more English songs, can minimise her Engrish usage (I'm not in the position to say so anyway lol).

Lastly, to Helixius, Email me your address!!!

Sorry, taken by web cam...

Merry Christmas adieu~

PS: YUI-Forum也好像有聖誕禮物。。。或是新年禮物(如果來不及交貨)。

half-banana dot com Christmas Giveaway Winners

Santa Teo has decided who Santa is going to give these YUI goodies to.

Favicon contest:

1. Elizabeth
2. Rob

However, I will be using Elizabeth's favicon.

So she gets to choose one CD and one free paper. Why Elizabeth's? Firstly, it looks professional. Secondly, I might change half-banana dot com to some other names in the future (such as YUI-ing dot com?! But they say a good domain name should not have hyphen in it, then what about YUI-net dot com?). Good domain name = Better SEO = More traffic.

Plus, most of the favicons from various blogs don't really make sense (in some ways). I guess maybe because they made it themselves? Since I have such a professional looking one, first time visitor might stay in this blog longer before they figured out that this is a fanblog LOL. I'm thinking in long term, you know =P

After Christmas, brand new favicon will appear in half-banana dot com xD

Comments/ Feed backs:

1. Razgriz - Glad to know that my ROCKIN' ON JAPAN translation is useful to some people.
2. gotchi - She emailed me a super long blog review.
3. Helixius - because he mentioned kennysia (me love his blog).
4. Sherwin - because he will be half-banana dot com's contributor.

Winners (Elizabeth, Rob, Razgriz, gotchi, Helixius, Sherwin), please email me your address to me asap (hinfinitie@hotmail.com), I'm going to mail all the presents on tomorrow. And in your email do mention which one you wish to have as your present the most, follow by number 2...and so on.

And for those who think that I'm biased and what not, do email me too lol. I will explain why, or give you something else to compensate with?

Thanks again for participating! Hopefully I'll more stuff to give away in the future, which means more contests~ Thank you guys for all your valuable comments, I'll organise, review them all over again, and make half-banana dot com a better/ cooler blog in year 2008 for all YUI Lovers out there!! Lets YUI-ing lol.

Thank you!!

Till then!! (I still haven't explain the holy thing)

PS: I just finished Seito Shokun. The producers definitely pick the right person to write ending theme song. I might write a review in the future.

half banana dot com Favicon contest nominees

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I have received total 10 submissions, and picked 5 among 20+ favicons you guys have created. So many great favicons I don't know which one to choose T.T However, you guys kinda 'enlightened' me on which icon suits this blog the most. So, I selected five and I need some inputs from my dear readers, because after Christmas, you will see one of the icons above appear in your browser bar lol.

1. Manuel

Manuel made this favicon based on half-banana dot com's banner. Obviously Y = YUI

2. Elizabeth

I picked this because it looks professional xD

3. Rob

Imagine I'll be looking at both my name and YUI's in my blog, everyday.

4. Razgriz

5. gotchi aka the person who created half-banana dot com's header banner

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hmm which one?

Thanks again to:
Manuel, John, Elizabeth, Helixius, Haze, Riku, Saustic, Ragridz, Rob, and gotchi for participating!! Sorry because I only have so little stuff to give away, plus I have only one blog lol.

Music Station special Super Live 2007, New YUI Diary

Holy~ (will be explained in the next post)

Every time YUI is going to perform in Music Station, a lot of fans (including me) will get all excited yet worried at the same time. Some of them will leave messages in YUI-net's Message Board to show their support.

Of course, her staffs will become nervous too. In latest YUI Staff Diary, seems like they will read all the messages from fans while waiting for YUI's turn, anxiously. They always looking forward to these encouraging messages from fans, especially during Music Station performances. Don't get upset if YUI doesn't read your message, at least her staffs will =P

Why is that so? Simply because Music Station is one of the few music programs in Japan which broadcasts on real-time, LIVE. You make one mistake, and whole Japan will notice straight away.

However, none of us won't be as nervous as our YUI-sama, obviously. In latest YUI Diary, she already starting to get nervous on her next MS performance, which is tonight at 7 pm (Japanese time). She will perform CHE.R.RY, in this 4 hours long show.

Btw she said that she will be having recording sessions on Christmas, apparently on every Christmas day she has recordings to do. And she's kinda happy about that (??). I bet you boys must be happy about this too. YUI, staying in studio, on Christmas. As for me, 90% I will be at home, watching Christmas movie, alone. Lol.

Back to Music Station. We've seen her acting so stiff in her first ever MS, messing up lyrics, did wu~wang for YUI Radio listeners, put wristband on her guitar headstock...

In last year's MSSL, YUI performed even though she was not feeling well.

What will happen tonight? Can't wait!!

PS: half-banana dot com Christmas Giveaway contest will end as soon as YUI finished performing CHE.R.RY, act fast if you want these inexpensive YUI goodies~

Ask fellow YUI Lovers: What you hope to see more in half-banana dot com? (Part 1)

As part of the half-banana dot com Christmas giveaway contest, I have received a bunch of interesting feedbacks from you guys. Thank you very much. Btw, this contest will end on tomorrow (Friday), after YUI performed in Music Station Super Live. Maybe around 6~10 pm Malaysia time. The rules are set by me but I can break it anytime so don't worry, keep on commenting and submit your favicons =P

Part one consists of first 10 comments I received.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

btw, i do respect the way u dun want to 'westernised' wut YUI said...
neway..thanx for sharing all of this wif us XD
plus!u can add a video you guitaring TOKYO! haha! XD

akyna24 - Thank you for realising that, that's one of the reason I'm quite picky when it comes to selecting which stuff to translate. I've been wanting to do a TOKYO demo video, for fans who wished to play YUI's version, especially those who just started learning guitar. Main reason is to show that you can play just like YUI, if you willing to take the first step. There's no such thing as too late/old. I've been neglecting my guitar lately...

I know you want to hear constructive feedback, but I'm pretty much satisfied with getting as much info on Yui as possible ^^ One thing I'm particularly interested in are sales figures. Perhaps for her next singles/albums/DVD or whatever you can tell us if it was successful or not and how the Japenese liked it.
Also translations are always appreciated, though I can understand that you don't like it :P

Uub - I'm not that 'ranking/ sales conscious' nowadays but I will post up these news, but it's not my first priority. Analysis of these figures I think it is better for people at JPM Forum to do it, because I don't even follow Oricon chart or CDTV closely these days, plus YUI herself doesn't really care about sales figures, I shall focus on something else instead =)

Check out World of YUI, I just recently discovered this site, they have all these polls results, rankings and stuff like that, don't trust the lyrics translation so much though.

I cannot think about anything that may help you in order to improve your blog. Do you know why? Because your blog is YOU. This blog is like a piece of yourself on the Internet. I'm not going to tell you how to change your blog, because there's no way I can change you. Well, in fact there's nothing I could change in this blog. It's wonderful.

Manuel - Muchas gracias!! No sé español lol =x Your comment reminds me of Dr. House's famous quote: People don't change. But we can improve though, prepare for new stuff from me~

I'm not really interested in winning the stuff more so than having you become motivated and continue with your wonderful translations and summaries (maybe a couple of Locks! episodes? lol ;).

John - I think I will do an introduction on YUI Locks first =P

Maybe you can add a short talk in every entry (like kennysia), to let us know something about YUI, favourite food/place, interesting thing she said in radio/diary, etc.

Helixius - I don't know how to create that column thingy though xD Nice one. Me like it =D This thing is on my to-do list.

i'm liking this branding idea..always keeping ur readers involved *thumbs up* I will probably have some time in the next day or two to send an entry in..i've never made icons before but i'm up for the challenge! maybe i'll make a new banner for the upcoming new year?

gotchi - Been reading too many blogging blogs lol. Free new banner?! =D *reserves one prize for gotchi*

Wow...I haven't done tiny graphics like favicons in such a long time...but for something YUI I'll start again! Thanks for all the YUI-related news and especially the translations for those of us who aren't fluent in Japanese.

Elizabeth - Thanks for your favicon! And you're welcomed~

What I hope to see more in half-banana.com? Definitely continued sharing of interesting news related to YUI!! Your detailed analysis of YUI's performances, interviews etc have been very organised and informative. Regarding translations, it's good to take things at your own pace. Maybe you can include in this blog a timeline-like post on YUI, like the one in Oct '07 Newsmaker, and it can be expanded on as time goes. Or you could do a summary post on YUI's favourite kuchiguse/inspiring kotoba/habits?

Mel - Time line post, something like this? Habits, I have some ideas on this, have to re-read/ listen a lot of interviews, to double check everything in case my assumptions are wrong.

I have been an avid reader of your blog since the day I discovered it. I unraveled me many things I don't know, I need to know, and I want to know about my dear YUI.
I am not a fan of commenting. I just read and let myself discuss it "innerly". Sounds crazy ne?

Rob - I talk to my other self quite often to lol, sometimes in Japanese, to practice speaking haha, we are all crazy. I will reveal even more about YUI in the future, keep reading.

1. Hiring me as a proofer!

2. I think it'll be nice if there's a page with a list of YUI's events and appearances(past, present n maybe future).

3. Hmm, aside from YUI, I'm also interested in people who are close with her(staff, friends, etc) and famous people who are her fans.

4. Er, add a 'About Yui' button on top? Perhaps her biodata(her fav. quotes, food, movies, etc) and discography for the sake of it.

5. Reviews on YUI's fav movies, books, manga, music, food...people...(hmm, I can help with the manga part, lol)

Sherwin - Thank you for spending your time writing this. Sooo long, me like lol.

1. You are now officially part of half-banana dot com's contributor. Might ask you to do some guest posts in the future (if you have to time to).
2. That one can be quite a big project, I might do it if I can clear all my translation debts.
3. Dear YUI is quite secretive when it comes to people around her, we can only dig the other way, I've been doing this here and there, it is one of favourite 'area' as well.
4. Hmm...maybe I'll do it differently, such as bashing the inaccuracy of wikipedia, put Yui instead of YUI, as well as her song titles...and explain all those false assumptions lol.
5. Well if you can link YUI in your reviews (demo from yours truly) I'll be glad to let you work on this. Hinokio and Sidecar ni inu are still sitting in my hard disc...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's all for today, really appreciate all of your comments. I'm all fired up to write more posts lol, thanks!!

Of course, I will reveal the winners before Christmas (hopefully), then that will be new year's present lol. Before that I might need you guys to be favicon contest's judges, I cannot decide which one is the best >.<

Till then.

PS: I have replied remaining comments in this post.

half-banana dot com Christmas giveaway

I'm going to be Santa Teo this Christmas. These are some prizes I would like to give away.

It is good to have friends in Japan. THANKS!!

* scratched feel my soul single
* scratched Tomorrow's way single
* 3 copies of pronto pronto? vol.09
* 2 copies of 80 No.91

Total 7 prizes. Very sorry for giving out scratched CDs LOL. I have extras what, might as well give them away. Anyway both are unopened.

So, how to get these lucrative prizes??

1. Design a favicon for half-banana.com

This picture below is part of my customised firefox browser. See all those small icons lining up below address bar?? They are favicons.

I installed smart bookmarks toolbar addon so that I can stuff more links in my bookmarks toolbar.

half-banana.com's favicon is the one inside that red square. It is quite frustrating seeing my blog's plain/ default favicon being pwned by all these cool-looking favicons. If my blog has a unique icon, I can spot it easily. Besides, it is good for branding.

WAIT, that one is YUI-Forum's favicon, mine is on the right lol I marked the wrong one.

Since dear gotchi made such a cool header for my blog previously and got pretty nice feedbacks from you guys, this time I wish to change my default favicon.

I know some of you guys are really good at designing and stuff, so please help me out lol. Since I'm noob in this field, my expectations are not that high, I'll leave it to you guys. Of course the icon must have something to do with this website, or YUI. AND, don't steal if from those free favicons websites and claim that it is yours. You can send me the link though =P

Favicon tutorials:
What is a favicon and how to make it?
How To Create A Favicon In Photoshop

Send in your entries to: hinfinitie@hotmail.com

This favicon contest will end...after I received 5 entries, hopefully. I might need your input on which one fits the best. Maybe there will be a poll or something.

Join this favicon contest if you want YUI goodies!! The winner will get TWO prizes. Either one CD one pamphlet, or 2 pamphlets of your choice.

2. Leave comment in this post.

On how you hope to see more in half-banana dot com (hopefully not translations T.T), what else I can improve on (my English, grammar, reduce my fangirl-ness ect). You can bribe me too xD

Those who can provide valueable, constructive feedbacks will receive one of these gifts from me, as a token of appreciation. Simple as that.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I might throw in more stuff if the response is good, give you my unscratched CD and I'll keep the damaged one instead, or by accepting requests on certain YUI file, even translation requests IF...something really big happened lol.

Even though this blog doesn't attract that many readers compare with others, I've learnt a lot and I'm enjoying providing you guys my discoveries on YUI. I won't be quitting that soon, that's for sure. In this festive season, I can only contribute this much, share the love~

PS: I won't con/scam you people, you will get the gift, it's just a matter of time =P

After YUI LOCKS, now what?

This post is continuation of OMG YUI mentioned my name in YUI LOCKS for 4 times!! post previously.

YUI LOCKS website has updated.

My letter is the big square envelope with blue air mail sticker. They put numbers on the letters lol. Then mine should be number 5.

I'm still amazed that it actually reached YUI, gotta thank the people who developed postal system.

It is true that everything is possible.

I kinda misinterpret the part when YUI was giving comment on anas604's cover.

"オリジナルより、英語でカバーしてくれたこっちの方がいいね…"
Compare with the original version, this English cover version actually sounds better...

!!!

Way to go anas604~!!

So what's next? Go to see YUI in Japan?? T.T

Christmas is coming, I have prepared some cheap presents for you guys, under one condition that you gotta help me on 'upgrading' this blog lol.

Till then.

Sunday, December 09, 2007

OMG YUI mentioned my name in YUI LOCKS for 4 times!!

I tried to come up with a more attention grabbing title (kononnya SEO), wonder if this sounds right or not.

Finally, after 3 months, my letter to YUI has reached Japan and was read out aloud in YUI Locks, YUI's regular radio show, on Thursday, 6 December 2007.

Our letter is the square one with blue airmail sticker.

Before that I thought I might have to send it again if YUI didn't mention our covers in the next F Generation segment, in case the letter got lost. Didn't want to waste all the effort done by fellow YUI lovers, spending god knows how much of their precious time to make these wonderful covers of YUI songs. Excluding my cover of Thank you My teens lol.

As the Chinese proverb said: 皇天不負有心人, at last, after all the anticipations I had every week for the past 3 months, my letter...my letter...was read by YUI, well ironically, when I was sleeping.

The next morning after YUI Locks was aired, I saw natsumi's text message around 4 am. Without thinking further I walked slowly towards my computer, trying to act all calm. But I was extremely excited inside.

To my fellow readers who is not members of YL and wondering what on earth am I talking about, please refer to this thread. This is regarding "Send your guitar clips to YUI @ YUI LOCKS!" thing going on in YUI LOCKS. YUI played our fellow YL member, Alanna's LIFE and this time...

She aired another forum member, anas604's English version of TOKYO on December 6 YUI LOCKS, and mentioned my name. Since I was the one who wrote + sent the letter =P I get the recognition~

Normally I don't post download links (upload them at somewhere else) but since this is such a memorable event, I cut out the part where YUI mentioning us and here's what she said:

Oh before that, download the file here.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Before that it was some crazy rock version of LIFE. Interesting stuff lol.

Minute 00:00

YUI: There's more. Next is another oversea entry, by Teo san from Malaysia.

Hajimemashite, my name is Teo. I'm a Malaysian Chinese, as the representative of YUI International Fan Community (with members around 3000 presently), I have something to give YUI sensei. Actually the cover aired on July 5, by Shinigami from Canada, they are members of this community too. After I listened the broadcast, I really couldn't believe it, I was so happy until I couldn't sleep. Immediately I informed this big news to our members, and Shinigami was glad about it too. This time I represent our community to send YUI sensei covers by members from different countries. YUI sensei, please come to oversea someday ya.

YUI: The letter too...was written in Japanese, well normally people from oversea will write something such as "konnichiwa, YUI san you are angry? You have angry?" they wrote things like that but this one feels like it was written effortlessly, jyouzu desune. (She's good don't you think so?)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOL I'm honoured *blush* Before that she was kinda poking weird Japanese written by foreigners, just like us making fun of their Engrish. Btw, from what I've heard, if you can speak even a little bit of Japanese such as greetings, kawaii and things like that, it'll be enough to be complimented by Japanese. So I shouldn't be that proud of it, even if the compliment is from dear YUI. Of course I'm happy. Like YUI always said:"ureshii desu." every time she received nice comments from other people. To me, no other words can describe this.

Notice that every time YUI mentions Alanna's band, Shinigami, she will make those funny accents. Very the cute.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Minute 01:05

YUI: So Shinigami san was glad about it too? Great! Seems like my message...reached there too. Arigatou gozaimasu. えー this time, among the 16 songs included in this cd-r, I would like to listen Awa Amran san's TOKYO English version.

*anas604 - TOKYO (English Lyrics by Kevin Hilde)*

I even tried to call my family before I got too far
But then what was there to say, so changed my mind
I rolled along a little suitcase, carried one old guitar
I've left all of my photographs behind

If I'm to allow myself to grow, Some things I must let go
Is this what's repeating in my mind?

Minute 02:11

YUI: This has yet another different feeling, this English version. But changing from Japanese and sing in English relatively might seem very difficult, yet the English lyrics fits the melody well. It's like...a totally different feel and I think it's really suteki (wonderful). Ureshii. A CD consists of 16 songs, sent to me, that means every one submitted their covers to this Teo san, to me right? I'm really happy, and grateful about it. Shinigami's version of LIFE was great and at the same time, Awa Amran san's TOKYO is wonderful too, ureshii desu. Why am I sounding as if this one's better? *laughs* And Teo san mentioned that "Malaysia has lots of delicious food so please come ya", included in this letter. Delicious food sounds good. Anyway, thank you guys for all the entries I received!

BGM: HELP

arigatou gozaimasu - thank you
ureshii - happy, glad, delighted
suteki - wonderful, lovely, marvelous

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's all. Did I miss out anything? In the end dear YUI said that since everyone is enjoying themselves, making different covers, from now on submission is open to ANY YUI songs, it does not have to be LIFE. In the future she plans to have fans sending in their original works *hint* *hint* It can be any genre, please write and sing it, and she will support us!

So people, start flooding School of Locks' mail box!! Just send anything to the following address:

〒102-8080
SCHOOL OF LOCK内 バンド部「YUI課題曲」係

If you guys have any questions feel free to ask me. Good luck!!

Btw, fellow YL anas604 is a Malaysian too, check out her other YUI covers, AMAZING stuff. Judging from YUI's comment, I think she really likes it a lot. I am just a representative, not the one who's singing, we should congratulate anas604 instead. Japanese fans seem to love it too, some of them left nice comments in YUI-net message board. According to anas604, this English version was requested by Kevin Hilde after he saw her covers in YouTube.

My actual thoughts: This doesn't feel right lol. I'm really happy about this. It is not often that your name mentioned by the artist you look up to, more than once. It was as if a dream, and I thought that 'Teo' YUI mentioned is somebody else instead. It's amazing that though us fans never seen each other, we do all these cool stuff together, thanks to the internet. I really appreciate it. Hopefully someday, we can meet each other in 'somewhere'.

Once again thank you guys for your wonderful comments! I re-listen some of the covers (not my pathetic attempt) again, all I can say is great job YUI LOVERS!! Keep on 'covering'~ and ROCK ON!!

If I make any mistakes, I might not be able to correct immediately, because I cannot access to the internet in my house.

Till then!

PS: I wonder how many times I have listened to this xD

YUI on Upcoming Music Station Super Live 2007, Winternet '07-'08

YUI-net announced that dear YUI will participate in this year's Music Station Special Super Live (21 December 2007)!! Woot!

EDIT: YUI is going to perform CHE.R.RY.

Of all end of the year specials, me love MSSL the most. Can't wait for the artists line-up.

I'm not looking forward to YUI's appearance in Kouhaku (yet to be confirmed) though. Since she is going to perform in COUNTDOWN JAPAN 07/08 on December 31, which is at Osaka. Maybe she can rush back to Tokyo? Because her performance starts at 4:20 pm. I remember that Hamasaki Ayumi went to Kouhaku + some award show + her own countdown live back then, it is possible. Plus her voice condition seems good these days, unlike last year. We'll see.

EDIT: In the latest Kouhaku line-up, no YUI.

Anyway, more shows = good for fans. I shall welcome them =D

As for Sony Music Online Japan year end's special, Winternet '07-'08, they are having lots of wonderful events, such as (from MARI diary):

1. Presents from artists. YUI is giving out sunflower seeds (those included in I remember you limited edition) for 20 fans.

2. Year end comments from artists. YUI's comment is scheduled on December 7.

3. Artists baton. YUI passes to ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION, AKFG kinda mentioned her too. They performed together recently at SOL's Young Flag tour in Zepp Fukuoka.

4. Signed new year card and screensaver(?) from artists. Starts on 1 January 2007.

5. Winternet LIVE on December 19. YUI is not in the line up though.

Ooo another year is coming to an end.

6 Lessons I have Learnt from Fire Incident

Note: This post has nothing to do with YUI.

This morning, as usual I went for a walk (my running shoes were torn) while listening to Benjamin Franklin's autobiography. It feels great looking at the sunrise, feeling the chilling morning breeze, while praying that those dogs lurking around won't come and attack me...I should fix my shoes soon, at least I can run away lol.

When I returned back home, my mom told me that she had fried banana fritters for breakfast and quickly rushed to work.

As I went inside my house, I smelled something funny, and I went to kitchen. Apparently my mother forgot to turn off the gas and smokes were coming out from wok with lid closed on it.

I quickly turned off the gas and the moment I lifted off the lid, OMG fire blasted off!! Frightened, I quickly threw that lid into the sink and cooled it down with tap water.

Lesson 1: Never open the lid when the wok is overheated.

Then my father started yelling, complaining that my mom shouldn't cook when she's in rush yada yada yada and repeated the same phrase for more than 3 times =.=

Lesson 2: There's no point blaming when something already happened.

That negative vibe/ energy annoyed me, especially on such a beautiful Saturday morning.

Lesson 3: Don't stay near people who possesses negative aura, bad for health. Unless they are your close ones xD

My younger brother, apparently waken up by my 'screams', was kinda shocked seeing such a sight too. Then he remembered that my mom just bought a fire extinguisher recently and looked for it.

Lesson 4: Keep a fire extinguisher even though it is expensive lol.

Equipped with this brand new little thing, my brother put off the fire ^^ I was one of the spectator, it looks fun spraying that thing, and my dad finally stopped ranting.

Lesson 5: Apparently once fire extinguisher opened, it cannot be use any more?
(ooo have to refill)

Left: This is how our kitchen looks like after incident. Right: After cleaning up the mess.

Throughout the whole process I was all hyped up, couldn't stop laughing and my dad was kinda irritated by my behaviour lol (still so happy while your house is on fire). Being a blogger, I thought this can make a great post and started to take pictures, joking around with my brother at the same time.

However, I felt grateful. Luckily that 'blast' of fire didn't hit my face, if not...luckily we bought fire extinguisher, luckily our house was not made from wood...there are so many other good things we can see from different perspective, instead of yelling and blaming. Always look on the bright side people, good for health haha.

Lesson 6: Be grateful.

The main cause of this fire tastes good too, I ended up eating SIX of it LOL.

Now, who's gonna clean up the mess?? And wipe off those dusts flown all over our house? My mom still doesn't know about this (at office).

Hmm and who's gonna buy new wok, new stove, new fire extinguisher??

PS: And I have JLPT test (level 2) tomorrow, this is going to be fun.

Time spent on this post: 1.2 hours.

EDIT: My mother 'forced' us to clean up the kitchen together, luckily I have one good excuse (having test lol), only helped to wipe off blacks stains on the wall, for 15 minutes.

As for JLPT, I kinda screwed up in listening and grammar section. Always think that my listening skill is quite good, maybe dear YUI doesn't use formal languages that much LOL. Ok it is not her fault.

To improve my listening, nowadays I listen to podcasts books digest, particularly business books. Even though I don't understand most of it, at least it will make me feel 'superior', knowing the existence of these books haha.

Till then.

YUI First Budoukan Live - 19/11/2007

It's been more than 10 days since YUI's first ever Budoukan live was held. Even though I didn't attend (I wish I could), I have compiled related links in this post, and a small summary/ conclusion I come up with after reading all these live reports which will just make me even more jealous.

Don't read it if you love surprises, because this might cut down half the fun you gonna have through watching the upcoming DVD (yet to be confirmed).

Song List:

Opening

1. It's happy line

She lights up the candle, just like in Taiyou no Uta, but failed in the first time. Maybe due to nervousness.

-MC-

2. Good-bye days

No cables or anything were attached, except a microphone placed in front of YUI, just like what she did in street performances back then. She sang this song twice because she messed up the lyrics.

3. Merry Go Round
- She went to main stage and screamed 'BUDOUKAAAAN!!!'

4. LIFE

-MC- Short introduction of herself and band members.

5. CHE.R.RY

-MC- Introduced her friend, Yuuyu kun (you you). People said the name was taken from Happy Birthday to you you lol so cute. It was a bear made from CG, then YUI asked when is his birthday, started from January, February, March....(it is November 19). Then she asked You you kun to dance together.

6. Happy Birthday to you you
- In the screen there were lots of different coloured bears dancing together, and You you's girlfriend too. There was another red bear doing "sonna no kankei nee" pose LOL plagiarise (if you know the comedian who wears swimming trunks only and goes around terrorising artists with that famous phrase).

7. It's all right

-MC- Asking fans to take care of themselves since it's cold out there, and introducing that one and only song which should be listened during winter mornings, inside your futon.

8. Winter Hot Music
- She sang with hand mic, no guitar playing, and slowly walked towards the pavement.

9. I remember you
10. Skyline

-MC- YUI Radio at budoukan

Apparently at first they were having problems with the sound system, YUI couldn't hear Shigezou san's voice but the audience heard his. After fixing it, they had small talks such as how YUI came up to stage in the opening. She exposed that she did it in Johnny's style, the one they always do in concerts, 'Jya~n' (bounce) from bottom. Then Shigezou told YUI that she shouldn't spoil these secrets out lol.

In YUI RADIO #28, Shigezou asked fans to send any requests they wished to have in this Budoukan live so here are some of the requests:

#1 Mickey's version of Wu~wang!!
- Without thinking further YUI did it xD

#2 Asking people who attended this concert to support YUI on behalf of those who couldn't make it (like me T.T).
- huge applause from the audience.

#3 Wu~wang on right hand while wu~nyan on the left.
- At first dear YUI thought that she could do it but when she tried to do so...apparently it was difficult lol. Wu~nyawan?!

#4 Among band members, who will save YUI if someone asked YUI to do another back flip? (HEYx3 incident lol)
- Everyone looked at YUI's guitarist Kaji san lol. With drum rolls by Muta san, Kaji san did it~ Then he was kinda embarrassed and went to hide behind drum set.

#5 Puts on that weird looking sun glass.
- YUI went to backstage and took it from her manager Waji san, then put it on.

#6 Pose as the emergency exit in YUI's way.
- While wearing the sun glass (perhaps requested by Shigezou san lol). Then YUI, with that sun glass, stood still lol, acted as the emergency exit xD Notice that this time YUI didn't 'throw' any of the requests to others like she used to do. She did whatever she could *touched*

#7 Play drums
- It started with simple beats then blasted off with other instruments accompanied by band members.

#8 Lastly, sing along Good-bye days accompanied by YUI's acoustic guitar.
- Lyrics were shown on the screen, and everyone sang first half of the song, while YUI playing her acoustic.

End of first half.

11. LOVE & TRUTH

Together with strings, consist of 22 members. Solo! Solo!!

12. Driving today
- YUI played her acoustic in a slower tempo.

13. Last Train
- After this song YUI went to backstage. And band session started.

14. RUIDO
- YUI changed leather jacket and entered with this song. Apparently the exploded fireworks in the end shocked most of the people, it is a first in YUI's concerts I suppose lol.

15. Jam
16. Rolling star

17. Highway chance

-MC- Saying that next will be the last song (and every one goes "what??")

18. My Generation

-Encore-

Nice Martin there. YUI and band members changed to tour T-shirt.

19.Understand
- slide shows of family photos from members of YUI Fanclub, including YUI's). Members introduction.

20. HELP
21. feel my soul

-MC-

22. Thank you My teens
- The screen showed footages of staff preparing for this concert, fans lining up etc.

-Encore 2-

23. TOKYO

- She stopped singing halfway (trying to hold back her tears), but continue playing guitar. According to her fans, it was such a unusual sight seeing YUI tried so hard to withstand it T.T

Before leaving the stage, YUI asked her fans be careful on their way home >.<

Around 21:30 - END

Taiyou no Uta DVD Taiwan Version

I have posted the pictures of YLs Malaysian outing at YL forum, if you wanna know how me look like, feel free to check it out.

Someone in Taiwan helped me to buy this Taiyou no Uta Taiwan version DVD from 5MUSIC (or you can buy it from YesAsia, slightly expensive), because I tried to register but never receive confirmation email from them. So, THANKS =D

I think this Taiwan version is much better than Japanese version in terms of price and value. But Taiwan version doesn't have guitar pick =P If you wanna buy Japanese version simply because of that guitar pick, good luck to you (maybe some stores still has first press).

Left: Taiwan version (~RM 75), Right: Japan version (~RM 180)

This DVD box consists of 2 DVDs (movie and making of), 10 postcards, and Taiyou no Uta diary written by YUI. The diary was translated into Chinese, the translations sounded correct but somehow I felt that it kinda make dear YUI's writing a little bit childish. Lol. Original text in Japanese sounded fine to me, hmm...

When it comes to dear YUI, me can be quite picky. The first thing I checked was the translation.

Chinese: My name is Amane Kaoru, I love music. I don't have boyfriend. My favourite food is banana. WRONG.

Haven't checked the translation of diary though (not that my Japanese is really good...just being picky lol).

Next, the translation in the DVD.

My favourite banana is food (最喜歡的香蕉是食物). Yay~!!

Oh yea the movie has Chinese and English translations, yet half the price of Japan version. That's why I bought it =D

But they got the lyrics of Good-bye days wrong I think: ~la la la love with you, with extra 'la' and 'love'.

To those who were wondering where is that YUI 'drops her tear' part, I finally found it lol. It is in the making DVD, under behind the scene, last chapter.

One day, dear YUI went to watch Taiyou no Uta full show for the first time. I think she went there by herself, with her backpack and sweater. After the movie finished, she was asked to give comments.

Trying to hide her face (aiks I forgot what she said...I was distracted).

For the making DVD, only Chinese translations, no English.

Then...(click to enlarge)

Don't cry T.T

That was the second time I saw her tears 'dropped' (first was TOKYO PV).

Maybe the third time will be...Budoukan DVD?!

Till then.

ROCKIN' ON JAPAN Interview Part 6 (page 049)

This translation needs to be digested slowly. It is freaking long.

Chinese translations can be found at triper san's blog, he had translated the whole thing.

Part 6 & 7

Disclaimer: My JLPT level is only 3, my MUET (some stupid Malaysian English test) is band 5, just giving you guys a guideline on my language ability (I don't really know how to measure these things anyway, what do mean by 'fluent'?). Sorry if I made any stupid grammatical errors and tell me if I made any factual errors. Don't believe in everything I wrote. If you wanna copy anything from here, please ask your future readers to stop by my blog, to increase my blog traffic LOL.

Quitting School

YUI: Of course there were times that I spilled tea on customers too. Then a lady whom I respected that time came and said:" Go ahead and do something else instead ya." while lowering down teapot, apologised to the customer for me. I always think that they are wonderful grown ups, when seeing such figure from behind. I was motivated by such consideration, kindness, too. I thought of wanting to improve myself even more, hence I tried my best in just about everything, with utmost effort as much as possible. To me, that time turned out to be quite a beneficial period.

I can sense redundancy...screw it lol.

# But- having only ~2 hours of sleep, means almost no free time, right?

YUI: That's true, yea.

# The time during classes or recess will be...

YUI: I ended up sleeping most of the time.......Instead of communicating, I felt asleep. It was such a waste right? Too many things just need to be done. And...because of not having much time, I even stopped singing songs as well. Besides, I realised it by chance. "Ah, I don't even sing these days..." I started to have such thoughts. I'm sure from there, "Ah, I really wanna sing." Such simple emotion was born, and gradually these feelings were accumulated to a certain extent. Passing through paddy road, on my way home by bicycle after finished part time, I would lean on the telegraph pole, taking off one side of earphone, listened to the music, and sang along. After doing so every time, it relaxes my mind. While thinking along that I really like music after all. Yea things like that somehow calms me down. Because of that, when I happened to think of my future, things like perhaps there isn't any music path came to my mind. When I thought of that, somehow I would feel as if a gaped hole opening in my heart.

# Continue living that way might be the reason you decided to quit high school. But how was it like the whole process?

YUI: Well, something like that, because of living in that way laid quite a burden physically, or around end of high school first year, one day my cold went bad and admitted to hospital. It was pneumonia by the way. All of a sudden my time was less occupied after entering hospital, because of that I had more time to think. It was about two months. On that time, the feeling of "ah, I want to do music after all" grew even bigger.

Besides thinking, dear YUI finished whole series of Harry Potter available that time too lol.

YUI: On the way back from high school, every day as usual I would stop by musical instrument store, looking at some band recruiting members poster thing, always thinking of joining. I like to look at guitars too. I have contacted those who recruiting members before as well. Actual meeting with them and asking them about it was around twice. However, maybe I was too young in terms of age, plus I thought that it would be difficult for me, I never received any follow up.

YUI: That feeling of wanting to make music raised when I was in the hospital, was accumulated as well, and in some way it became stronger. Hence, I was thinking of maybe I should quit school or something. Plus, I was having problem, financially. No matter how hard I tried to pay the school fees, it was still not enough, and kept pilling up more and more. That worried me too. If I were to put my utmost effort into something at any rate, only the feeling of wanting to make music can make me stronger. If that is the case, since it is impossible for me to swing both sides for sure, thus when it comes to the time when I have to decide which one I really wanted to do the most, of course I felt more towards the feeling of wanting to pursue music.

Even more redundancy lol.

YUI: This is gonna be the first time I talk about...I once participated in one, small audition thing. I think I saw it in commercials or something and I had no idea how big the scale was. That thing was small, and I happened to come across it. I joined it before I was admitted to hospital. I was informed that I entered final stage when I was still in the hospital. Since I was already getting better, I requested for permission to go out, and went to that final audition. I really thought a lot about whether I should pursue music or not around that time, hence if I failed that audition, I will give up once and for all. It wasn't because that without the talent, no matter how you tried it will still remain meaningless, since this is a serious matter...that was how I thought. Even though I was still recovering, I sang in the audition and guess what, I won the competition. Because of that, I had this proof to persuade my parents, maybe I should try to work on this, such feeling came to me as well. And that started to motivate me. If it wasn't for that audition, maybe I would just quit from there. After discharged from hospital, I thought of trying my best in the path towards music. Definitely it wasn't because that I was told that I have the talent but, they could sense that I had this strong urge to pursue music, hence it turned out that I wanted to pursue the music path after all.

# Around that time you still haven't start writing original songs, right?

YUI: Yea I didn't write any original songs. I didn't even have a guitar. That time I sang Japanese songs.

# And that boosted your confidence, don't you think? Something like there's no such thing as zero possibility after all.

YUI: That's true.

To be continued.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hmm I actually translated the whole thing...almost word by word, so that you guys can interpret it in anyway you want. Hopefully after reading this, you will get to know more of this girl called YUI.

5 more pages to go.

Till then.

Review: Thank you My teens DVD

This is a biased review. Click on the pictures to have a closer look at it.

Received my copy of DVD yesterday, together with LOVE&TRUTH (after 2 months).

As expected for a less than 3000 yen DVD, it is just some normal DVD case with a 2-page booklet, and sticker. There are Hong Kong and Taiwan version too, which is 50% cheaper (if I'm not mistaken), with sticker included, if you're on a tight budget, can consider buying these two versions.

According to YUI staff, in order to trigger the additional sound channel, after finished this DVD for the first time, go to the menu and click on the yellow YUI word.

The video will be replayed again, along with commentaries between dear YUI and Shigezou san, like what we always hear in YUI Radio. Apparently when this commentary was recorded, YUI was watching this DVD for the very first time. So it is kinda interesting, being able to hear comments from YUI on first hand.

Because of this, I watched twice back to back (55 minutes x 2).

I'm not particularly excited with the live performances, since we have seen most of it quite a number of times previously in different occasions, except Happy Birthday to you you and RUIDO.

I really like YUI's expression in Happy Birthday, very...yasashii (gentle), and the way she swings around during chorus was cute. As for RUIDO, notice the high jump by Kaji san in the beginning?

Since I don't expect much from this DVD, when I first watched it, I just didn't feel any special about it. Except the tour documentaries, these scenes showed the 'off' side of YUI, something we rarely have the chance to see.

*PINK*

As for the live performances, CHE.R.RY, Highway chance sounds really good to me, I'm going to watch for the third time with earphones on (emphasize on the sound). However YUI shouting + shaking heads + kneeled down seems awkward to me. Well as long as she likes doing so, I shall be fine with it ^^

*Rawrrrr*

But, after hearing her explanation (commentary), I can understand why she's so into it. She said that during those moments she was too absorbed into music and just let everything out. I think with this additional commentary, it is actually worth the money, because you are technically watching this with dear YUI. They really know how to please a fan, besides 'sucking' my money xD

Things she will do on tour:

Find the best seat and try to 'feel' what it is like to be the audience. And bring out YUI note during MCs. Btw, she didn't really have to look a it, just that by holding YUI note it will make her calm down. She wrote all sorts of stuff in her note, such as local food, the dialects etc.

Extras:

She wore this outfit only during Sapporo's live.

Wah she carries her own luggage =D Is that keyboard? Or pedal board...Lol she still has that green or blue evil thing on her backpack. CUTE.

Lastly, when they showed these,

YUI's response was really sincere. She replied to almost every comment given by her fans. *touched* She said a bunch of other stuff too but I cannot recall it =x

Credits to MellowB @ Jpopsuki for rip + up this DVD =D

I don't think Sony dare to release future Budokan DVD with this style, they better don't...

Till then.
